Lady A sounds like she was weaned on the Chitlin’ Circuit, stomping out the blues like a female Joe T ex on this bare-footin’ album with a cast that includes John Oliver II playing just about everything on percussion and keys, along with guests Herman Brown/g, John Studamire/b and a slew of on-off stage guests. She shows her Sunday morning roots on a glorious gospel “Heaven Help Us All” with taking you to the other side of the tracks on a sassy “Whatever (You Do)” and a swampy story like “Miss Beula Mae’s”. She confesses her Old School dna on the dark soul of “Blues, Soul Catfish and Fried Wings” and gets Cajun funky on “ Bright Days”, able to take you on a Soul Train for “Enjoy Your Life”. A blue plate special.
