The team of guitarist Christ Cortez and trumpeter/percussionist Larry Williams go back decades, and the intuitive/symbiotic relationship is palpable here, as they mix and match with their bandmates Dan Jordan/ts-fl, Bob Thronton/p, Walt Hubbard-Jeremy Katalenic-Jeff Sipe/dr and Marco Bojorquez-Doug Mathews/b on a collection of rich originals.
The two deliver some rich duets, with lovely string and horns conversing on the cheerful “Glorious” and sharing ideas on the intimate “Building On A Dream”. Jordan brings in his feathery flute for a warm and lovely “Topza” and goes solo on a delicate “DJ”. The whole ensemble is a friendly co-existence, as when Williams puts on the mute for a sauntering “Melody Makes It Happen” or opens up on a bopping “Territorial Imperative”. Cheerful vibes abounding on this philadelphic session.
