Consisting of Brock Alexander/voc-g-key, Adam Watson/b-voc, Adam Watson/perc-voc, Taylor Smith/g, Howard Mahan/g and TJ Erhardt/key, the band The Old No. 5s deliver a rich mix of Allman Brothers-styled southern drawl’d blues rock with some 70s steady beats. The dark guitars resonate on pieces like “We’re Here” and “ Two By Two” while the voices and strings are urgent on the jammers “ Same Old You” and rocking boogie of “Living Your Dream”. There’s a laid back C&W feel that is alluring on “Went Out Walking” and Bowden provides a nice bass line on the fun “Purdy”. On the folkish side, “New Light” is an acoustic delight, and you get taken to the swing on the back porch for “What Does That Prove”? Southern lights.
