Classy mainstream piano trio work is produced Tangerine with Rolan Tempelaar at the helm with bassist Myles Sloniker and drummer Pete Van Nostrand on a mix of standards and originals. His touch is buoyantly reminiscent of Errol Garner’s lyricism and Red Garland’s glassy tone, slinking with Van Nostrand on “Slow Hot Wind” and pretty on “Beatrice”. Sloniker gives some nice support on a boppy “My Little Sued Shoes” and is suave with the leader during “” while Van Nostrand’s brushes are deft on the chimey “Tangerine”. The team digs in deep on “To Chicago” and samba’s deftly during a Latinized “Invitation”. Timeless trio outings.
