The real deal of traditional folk music is delivered by guitarist/vocalist John McCutcheon, who mixes and matches with JT Brown/b, Stuart Duncan/fid-mNS, Jon Carrol/key-voc and even goes solo for a bit. There’s some nice bluegrass feel and harmonies on the title track, stately home spun takes on “Le Chambon-Sur Lignon” and dreamy strings on “Medicine game”. Plaintive and rural atmospheres are felt with McCutcheon by himself on “The Hinge” and Old School’d “Moonshiner” while stories are spun with Brown on “Art” and the Cumberland Gapped “Farmer”.
