Al Basile: B’s Testimony

Cornet player, singer, composer and raconteur Al Basile takes you on a hip R&B tour with the swampy team of Kid Andersen/g, Mark Teixeira/dr, Brad Hallen/b, Bruce Bears/key, Doug James/ts and Jeff Charnonhouse/tp on this STAXY collection of originals. You get a lot of soul from this guy on the upbeat and optimistic “Lucky Man” as well as n ifty blue lines for the street savvy “Don’t Kid Yourself, Baby”. The Strat is boogalooing on “If All It Took Was Wisihing” and the team is rich and relaxed on “I Got A Right To Be Lonesome” while showing dirt under the nails on the gritty shouter I Oughta Be Your Monkey”. Hints of vintage Otis Redding come up on the fun “When The Girl Says Yes” and “Would I Do That To You” with some smokey juke jointing on “It’s Your Pain”. Memphis slims.
