Satoko Fujii:  Piano Music

When Satoko Fujii says that she’s playing “piano music”, she means every part of the piano. She “prepares” parts of the piano with paper, etc in the strings to create an almost synthesizer effect, strums and attacks the strings, uses the grand for percussion and even hits the ivories once in awhile. The two songs are more a collection of ominous sounds effects of ambience than actual “songs”. “Shiroku” is 19 minutes of eerie and unsettling strums, plucks and honings, while the 27 minute  “Fuwarito” a harrowing journey of atmospheres and things that go bump in the night. A dark and hazy night with the Hound of the Baskervilles.
