OYE! La Banda Ramirez: Cuban Butterflies

Upbeat woodwinds, pulses and voices give celebration by the team of Carolyn Steinberg Ramirez/fl-af, Chacho Ramiriez/perc-dr, Jack Glottman/p, Michael O’Brien/b and guests Chris Eddleton/dr, Oscar Onoz/tp and Sofia Tossello/voc among others. Steinberg-Ramirez’s flute guides the way through most of the pieces,  such as on the peppy title piece “Cuban Butterflies” and the classic sounding “Yambu For Two” which has her gliding over Ramirez’s infectious congas . Speaking of congas, the rhythm section digs deep throughout, going from a seductive sway on “Bolero Oculto” to a swinging mambo for “Is”. On the softer side, O’Brien leads with some thoughtful  electric bass to a reflective “St. Germain”  and Steinberg Ramirez is contemplative on the deep mood of “2020”while Sofia Tossello brings in a poetic read on the beautiful “Si Tu Vieras Con Mis Ojos”. Getting you back on the dance floor, you’ll want to grab your partner for the sensuous “Guaracha Estupefacta” and glide with her on the dance floor on “Harina y Quimbombo'”. This band is cruising like a 61 Caddy.
