Consisting of guitarist Denny Jiosa, bassist Roy Vogt and drummer Tom Muller the JVM collective (taking their name from their last names) mix electric rockish fusion with some gentle acoustic moments. Of the latter, Jiosa successfully gives Andalusian atmospheres with nylon strings on “Angels Among Us” while producing American folk moods during “Into The Night”. There’s a thick darkness on the 50s-ish “Which Doctor” and Jiosa gets echoey during “Gentle Chaos”. Muller swings in 6/8 on the busy “Treviso” and gives sleek energy to “Morocco”. An entire album unplugged could make some impressive and fresh inroads.
