Modern grooves are delivered by Dr. Mike Bogle, who playes keyboards, a bit of trombone and even throws in some vocals with his team of Dana Sudborough/vibe, Andy Barrus/Steel Pan-perc, Buddy Mohmed/b and Harrell Bosarge/dr. The flow is fluid and modal, with some nice electric bass work by Mohmed teaming with Bogle’s voice on the Metheny-esqe title tune or on the hip keyboards on “Voyager’s Dream”. Barrus delivers some nice marimba’s on the pretty and fluid “Positano”, while Bogle’s excursion with his trombone on the synthy laid bag “Eat Your Vitamins” is big, bold and funky. Most intriguing is a take of Pee Wee Ellis’ “The Chicken” with the band taking a trip to New Orleans with some soulful blue tones. Mohmed almost steals the show here, and it’s a credit to Bogle to give everyone a chance to step into the spotlight. A great team effort.
