David Finck: BASSic Instinct

Bassist David Finck puts his bass right up front in a variety of settings and styles on this mix and match album. The songs range from duets to tentets, and everything swings like a tetherball tournament. In the trios Finck bops to Eric Halvorson’s brushes on the nifty threesome of ”The Best Thing For You (Would Be Me)”, leads a guitar team with Bob Mann on “I’m Confessin’ (That I Love You)” and supports Melissa Errico’s emotive voice on his own artsy “I Remember”. He bows and picks with pianist Meg Ruby on a gentle “Seascape” breezes to Laura Conwesser’s flute on the quarteted “Joy” and gives a Latin Lover take with a three member horn section on “Tea For Two” and “ Dearly Beloved”. And if its fancy fingerwork you’re looking for, let the digits go wild on the frenetic ride of “ Tico Tico No Fuba’”. Fancy phallanges!
