Guitarist Chris Standring mixes and matches trios with all star drummers Peter Erskine-Harvey Mason and bassists Chuck Berghofer-Geoff Gascoyne-Darek Oleszkiewicz with strings, harp and some swinging guests on this lush collection of standards that is reminiscent of the vintage A&M sessions arranged by Claus Ogerman and Don Sebesky. Trumpeter Randy Brecker adds texture to the travelogue of “Sunrise” and breathy vocalist Kathrin Shorr caresses the lyrics to “What A Wonderful World”. The strings give rich support to “How Insensitive” with Standring winding around the harp on “Autumn In New Yourk”. Nylon strings glisten with a duet teamed with Gascoyne on “My Foolish Heart” and the strings get blue for “Maxine”. Instant nostalgia.
