Since moving forward from her small guitar/bass swing combo, singer Cyrille Aimee’ has ventured into larger ensembles and orchestras. Living in New Orleans at the moment, she takes the logical step of teaming up with Adonis Rose’s NO Jazz Orchestra for an almost nostalgic mix of bohemia and uptown pre-swing moods.
She goes chanteuse with the stately orchestra and soprano sax on Sidney Bechet’s opening title tune, with drummer/leader Rose leading the moribund trudge with growling trumpets on “Si Tu Savais”, both with Ms. Aimee’ in Left Bank Francophone. Old two step hot jazz has her scatting on “In The Land of Beginning Again” with the support in genteel frame of mind on “What Are You Doing The Rest of Your Life”. The band gets into an R&B mood along with giving a chorus on Jelly Roll Morton’s “In The Bucket” with Aimee’ in a sly mood on her own “Down”. As delightful and tasty as a beignet at the Café Du Monde.
