The rocking trio of Farhad Hossain/voc-g-key, Jose Mora/b and Tyler Kim/g rotate drummers Thomas Lang, Mark Zonder, Atma ANur, Leo Margarit and Chris DeChiara on this collection of a dozen hard rockers. Heavy mettalica thunder takes place on “A Subtle Invocation” and “Breathing Light” with hints of Aerosmith blues rocking the licks on “Intuition Underground”. Head banging effects take place on “Prisoners” and “Memories of Water” with some more soft moments coming on the acoustic “A Planetary Shift” and “The Day We Said Goodbye”, which includes some thoughtful piano. Hair band heaven.
One of the distinctive sounds of the Chicago Blues was created by guitarist Hubert Sumlin, who was a devoted sideman for Howlin Wolf most of his career. Guitarist and vocalist Sean Chambers gives tribute to the South Side gun slinger on this blues drenched collection of hard hitting hues.
Except for the stomping and dirty fingernailed “Chunky”, all of the tunes feature Chambers’ graveled voice, sounding at times like vintage Wolf, snarling on the Bo Diddley-ish “Do The Do” , wailing on “Goin’ Down Slow” or two stepping thorugh “Howlin’ For My Darling”. The team of Bruce Katz-John Ginty/B3-p, Andrei Koribanics/dr and Antar Goodwin/b boogie hard on “Hubert’s Song” waltz like Godzilla on “Forty-Four” and chunk out the beat on th trudging “Hidden Charms”. Deeper, tastier and thicker than Uno’s Pizza.
