Free and loose sounds come through the door of Leo Record. Here are three of the latest…
Jochen Baldes/ts-ss, Franz Hellmuller/g, Patrick Sommer/b and Tonhy Renold/dr create pastel impressions on these eight originals. A soft soprano sax is delicate with guitar tones on “Sufi” while a similar souffle’ is created on tenor sax on “Ambrosia”. Sommer is featured on the groove of “Noam” with Renold leading the way on the rubato’d “Herbst-Zeit-Lose”. Abstract electronics on “Lula” and cool clean chords of “Rabe Isst Pasta” make for misty musings.
Sergio Armarol plays prepared piano along with drummer/percussionist Roger Turner for nine intuitive interractions. At times, there is shuffling and squeaking sounds that make you think that a mouse is rumbling around in the attic, as on “Stop Tea” and “Paste Ducamp”. Wind chimes tinkle on “It’s” and the brushes splash during “Tangle”, and wait! There’s the kitchen sink o “Charlotte’s Underwear Dance”. Can someone please set up a few mousetraps upstairs?
Eric Plande’ plays tenor and soprano saxes, Claude Tchamitchian is on bass with Hasse Poulsen taking on the mandoline and acoustic guitar for eleven originals. Poulson gives some picking solo work and strumming on “Close” while Tchamitchian scratches out a bowed solo on “Our”. Breathy tenor sighings and moanings make up the reclining “Eyes”, abstract middle eastern “Magnetic Disturbance” and bluesy “Beyond Dreams” while the soprano sax jabs with Poulsen on “Run”. Hazy horizons.
