The “Jazz Is Dead” series continues with Brian Jackson on flute, clavinet, synth and Rhodes, joined by Ali Shaheed Muhammad & Adrian Younge on bass, guitar, clarinet, piano, percussion and sax, along with drummer Malachi Morehead for some funky renditions of modern jazz. The focus is on grooves and pulses, with the band sounding a bit like Miles Davis during his In A Silent Way period on Baba Ibeji”, “Under The Bridge” and the rambling synthy soul of “Bain De Minuit”. Spacey keyboards and rivulets run deep on ”Mars Walk” and the flutes riding the clippetty clop of “Ethiopian Sunshower”. The 70s return with a vengeance.
