Eddie Turner: Change In Me

Guitarist and vocalist Eddie Turner mixes Jimi Hendrix-like guitar work with Staple Singers-styled soul on this rich blues-soaked release with Kenny Kenny Passarelli/key-b-voc, Neal Evans/B-3, David Brenowitz-Neal Evans-Dean Oldencott and Jessie Lee Thetford/voc. It’s logical that Turner would cover a Hendrix tune, the more obscure “My Friend” and paint it with dark strokes of blue, while his guitar has similar hues on the rich title tune, and the gospel tinged “Whoa, Whoa, Whoa” along with choir on the side. Turner sounds convincing and vulnerable as he pleads on the pulsating “Standing On The Front Line” and “Another Sign of Weakness” while he gives some basic rock lessons on “Soul Run Free”. You can feel the tug between spiritual and secular throughout, making you wonder which way this gent will end up on the tightrope.
