Best known for his adventurous left of center work, drummer Andrew Cyrlle shows his more delicate, soft and lyrical side with this album teamed with Bill Frisell/g, David Virelles/p-synth and Ben Street/b. The songs have a gentle, folksy atmosphere, even with the leader giving a spoken love poem with his brushes on “With You In Mind”. Delicate cymbals stroll with piano and guitar on the graceful “Leaving East Of Java” as well as on Frisell’s strummed “Mountain”. Frisell adds his signature effects on his “Baby” while Virelles creates ambient soundscapes for his “Incienso”, with the team getting most frisky on Cyrille’s own “The News”.
