Tim Brady: Actions Speak Louder

Guitarist used the solitude resulting from the draconian COVID lockdown to re-asses his musical career and ambitiously undertake a 3 disc opus of likewise diverse musical directions, namely featuring his guitar with a quartet, orchestra and voices respectively. The “Solos and a Quartet” is subittled “Simple Loops in Complex Times”, with Brady teamed with Jonathan Barriault, Simon Duchesne and Francis Brunet-Turcotte in songs that can rock “Uncertain Impact”, crated ambience (“At Sergio’s Request” or complex guitar tonings (“Simple Loops…Mvt 3”). The Orchestra features a Triple Concerto entitled “Because Everything Must Change” with Brady accompanied by Shawn Mativetsy/tab-perc and Helmut Lipsky/vi soloing along with the virtual orchestra. Majestic sounds with sweeping guitar dominate “Mvt 4” with some progressive violin scratching away on “Mvt 2” and bringing eerie environments to “Mvt 1”. The third Act is titled “Revolutionary Songs/As It Happened” which is a collection of archival recordings remixed with Brady and Nathalie Poulin/voc, Andre Leroux/xax, Gordon Cleland/cel, Louise-Andree Baril/p and Marie-Josee Simard/perc. Poulin’s operatic soprano voice is featured on the complex and ambitious “The Twelve” and “When I Return”. There are some Wagnerian moments mixed with vocal effects on the three part “As It Happened” making the entire set a magnum opus.
