Consisting of Brandon Seabrook/g-ban-tapes, Mike Pride/dr-bells-org-glock and Mike Watt/b, the Three-Layer Cake trio spends an album trying to figure out if they can give a new feel to Led Zeppelin moods. A throbbing bass and ride cymbal come right out of Zep’s “Whole Lotta Love” while Pride takes his Bonham pills for “Big Burner” and “Shepherds”. Shrill guitars on “Ballad of the Gobsmacked” and garage rock for “Primary Fuel” all but call out for Robert Plant to jump in for some vocals. Hey, D’yer mak’er?
