The Offerings of Curtis Andrews: Speaking Hands

Curtis Andrews plays drums and percussion as he mixes sounds of Latin and India with a core team of Meredith Bates/vi, Jared Burrows/g, Robin Layne/vib, David Spidel/b and a rotating collection of guests on this exciting curry of flavors. You get a drum ensemble that percolates with Layne on “Kobla” and Sri Trichy Sankaran playing Indian percussion and drums on the kinetic “Tight Rope, short Walk” and Kaushik Sivaramakrishanan’s violin on the South Asian “The Speaking Hand”. Santana like guitar and salsa mix on “The Shapeshifter” and deep soul is dug on “30 for -32 in 25” with Neelamjjit Dhilon’s alto sax searing. Caribbean street sounds are earthy on “Tom TaTom Takatom TakiTa Tom” and the team stomps through “A Frayed Knot”. This album is a fantastic kaleidoscope of musical adventures, taking you down narrow roads of wonder.
