It’s hard not to get addicted to the Putumayo catalogue. Not only does the label bring you wonderful music from afar (no matter where you live), but they almost always include a local recipe in the liner notes. How could you go wrong?
This latest collection takes you to Aruba with Wally Warning’s warm voice lilting over the calypso’d “E Ta Gia Mia” while Cape Verdian vibes are supplied by Miroca Paris on “Mund Amor”. Gentle Malian droplets of strings take you to the Sahel on Moustafa Kouyate and Romain Magnoux’s “La Ligne Blue” with some easy folks swaying from Italy on “Alessandro D’Orazi’s “Profumo di Caffe’”. Some nice talking drum is heard along with rich harmonies on Constance Amiot’s French “Resonances” and festive clapping and chorus closes things out on Dom La Nena’s gentle “Juste Une Chanson” from Brazil. Now, how about those butter cookies from Israel?
