MORE OF AN ENDLESS SUMMER…Beach Boys and California Music Presents: Add Some Music, Cole Quest and the City Pickers: Self (en)Titled

The sound of the Beach Boys continues on for future generations here, as tracks by the Beach Boys’ Mike Love, Al Jardine team up with Ambha Love, Carnei and Wendy Wilson, Matt Jjardine and Justyn Wilson in this cheerful collection of material. The patented vocal harmonies are all there on the folksy “Add Some Music To Your Day” co-written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love, along with the winsome “Friends” while Mike Loves “Ram Raj” adds some hip Indian moods and clever voicings. A remake of the classic “Get Together” is perfectly pop, while “Jenny Clover” is an elegant and rich masterwork. Pet Sounds returns!

Speaking of offspring, grandson of Woody Guthrie, Cole Quest, fronts a fun bluegrass band as he sings and plays guitar and resonator on this upbeat ep with Larry Cook/b, Mike Mulhollan/banj, Sam Reider/B3, and Matheus Verdanio/harm. The team hums through a remake of the Flatt and Scruggs classic on “Foggy Mountain Roc” and pick and grin through some vintage Guthrie lyrics on “Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key”. You get some fun two stepping with vintage harmonies on “Ostrich Therapy” and the home spun “The Bitcoin Gambler” with a more tender side on “My Sweet Little Girl”. This song is your song.
