An intuitive and unorthodox trio is created by pianist Ayumi Tanaka, drummer/percussionist Thomas Stronen and Martha Lea, who switches between clarinet, voice and percussion for this collection of originals plus a traditional Norwegian folk tune. The latter, the title track, is filled with delicate voice, piano and nuanced pulsations, using space as a sound. Lea’s clarinet tentatively floates over Stronen’s brushes on “Duryea” and impressionisitic “Como”and ruminates over the rumble of “Eyre”. Tanaka gives a solo with a dainty and delicate “Nahla” and lays down lily pads for Lea’s voice on “Bayou II”. Water colors with a thin brush.
