Randy McAllister and the Scrappiest Band in the Motherland: Paperbag Salvation

Vocalist and composer Randy McAllister brings modern sardonic wit and observances with a jazz attitude on this collection of hip originals. He also plays harmonica and drums a bit, backed by a sleek team of Brandon Hudspeth/g, Paul Greenlease/b, Adam Hagerman/dr and vocalist Heather Newman along with a couple walk-ons. The moods range from a festive ska on “Personal Pinata” to an easy strutting soul piece like “Most Irritating Person In The World” while 70s funk is felt on “Catch Up Later”.  Some dark slide guitar by Howard Mahan makes for a harrowing “No Conductor” while he’s as hip as Mark Murphy on the shuffling “South North South”. Nice to have a new observer/raconteur in the neighborhood!
