Marty Elkins and Mike Richmond: ‘Tis Autumn

Spartan moods of voice and strings are delivered by rich toned vocalist Marty Elkins as she teams with bassist/cellist Mike Richmond for some sonata’d standards. You can hear Richmond’s fingers slide up and down the strings on the relaxed and resonant “Old Devil Moon”, and his bowed cello gets into subtones for Elkins’ vibrato for “Stairway To The Stars.” The team is parlor classy on “My Mother’s Eyes” and cheerful on a bouncy take of “When The Red Red Robin” while they modernize the classic “Honeysuckle Rose” with a new coat of paint. The two veer along side each other like dance partners on the title peace, and Elkins “doo doos” in a coy fashion for “In A Mellow Tone.” Intimate musing.
