Did you ever notice the type of girl in school that she was so “out” that she was “in”? Well, that’s red-spectacle’d Lara Hope, wearing 70s hot pance, a Buck Owens reject top and playing like she invented rockabilly (or is it “rocka-betty” in this case?).
She’s chaperoned by Matt Goldpaugh/b, Eddie Rion/g and Jeremy Boniello/dr and includes guests Matt Jordan/p, Hayden Cummings/ts-bs, Rosie Rion Porco/v-cel, Bobcat Arkham/bg and a stuffed phone booth of guests on vocals. The music includes a two step western swinger in the title tune, a double time “Whoa Is Me”, a retro boogie on “Let’s Go” and tons of toe tapping with Cummings on tenor as on “Stop, Drop and Roll”. Rion’s guitar gives some Les Paul sounds on the shuffling “Knocked Out” while the whole album has Hope putting the “hoot” back in “Hootenanny”. On how many walls has she written “for a good time call”?
