Vocalist Lauren Kinsella joins with co-leader Chris Hyson/p-synth and the intuitive team of Matthew Robinson/p-synth, Josh Arcoleo/sax, Dave Hamblett-Lloyd Haines/dr, Alex Haines/g and Alice Zawadski/vi on a dozen pieces that mix poetry and abstract musical tones. The arrangements are quite sophisticated, with Kinsella’s supple voice dreamlike on pieces like “Roots” while there is a mix of folksy violin and guitar along with jarring tones on “The Wheel”. There’s a lot of synthetic soundscapes, melding with clever piano and voice on “A Chance to Hear” while memories of Enya circulate on “Sky Thinking” or the dark dream of “Here’s The Thing”. Arcoleo brings some breathy tenor work to the elliptical “Wool Cotton” and the upbeat “Tiers” while prismatic effects or unearthed on “Early Feelings”. A walk through a sonic abstract art gallery.
