Rodrigo Faina and Change Ensemble: Different Roots

The voice of Fanny Alofs is supported by a large ensemble of reeds, brass, some strings and rhythm conducted by composer Rodrigo Faina. Alofs recites more than sings on the handful of tunes, wisping with Gerard Dleijn’s flugelhorn on “At Night” or rocking with electric guitarist Guillermo Celano on the hard hitting “ A Room Full of People” while the operatic “If I’m To Live” includes Nils van Haften’s brooding baritone sax. The instrumentals include a churchy organ on “Opening” and a dramatic “Deep, Dark and Blue” while the album concludes with a stirring “Dreams”. More a collection of moods and abstract thoughts swirling in the backroads of your mind.
