Multi sax man Richard Howell creates a thick texture of multitracking reeds and solos with his team of Ete Salif Howell/dr, Nick Panoutsos/b, Ian McArdle/p, Gabriel Naxia/b andf Jasim Perales/tb on a swinging mix of sounds not far removed from vintage Charlie Mingus.
On tenor, he stretches out with Perales on a wide ranging and free thinking “The Adventure”, while his melding of saxes creates a big band of sorts on the rapid paced “Like-Share”. His alto is lyrical as he mourns with Perales on the title tune, and he shows his funky side on ”Living With Truth Decay”. A reggae’d “Sing The Song of Samba Rock” includes a nice solo by Brown while the gospel’d “We Are All Connected” has the leader changing out a message of social unity over a rich groove. A kaleidoscope of bopping moods.
