Today’s generation sounds fresh and yet traditional on this recent album by Brandon Lee/tp, Markus Howell/as, Nicole Glover/ts, Calli O’Doherty/p, Adi Meyerson/b and Cory Cox/dr on this collection of new material.
Lee taps into his inner Lee Morgan for some crisp bop on “Whistle Blower” and sears through the deep groove provided by Meyerson and Cox during “Shades of Brown”. Glover’s tenor is warm as the trio waltzes underneath on “Afloat” while his ballad blows a fog on the expressive “Runaway” after O’Dherty provides a lovely intro. Cox leads the charge on the galloping “Trapezoid” while Howell shines bright with him as the team boogaloos on “Stop Gap”. Toe tappers unite!
