Consisting of Laurent Blondiali/tp, Manuel Hermia/sax, Michel Delville/g-Roland, Anoine Guenet/p, Damien Campion/b and Tony Bianco/dr, the Machine Mass Sextet comes across like a mix of early Pink Floyd and late period John Coltrane in terms of attitude and vision. Led by Hermia’s soprano sax and Delville’s acid rocking guitar, the team gives a deliberate and hard hitting take of Coltrane’s “Africa” while on tenor sax, Hermia drives over Campion’s sizzling drums on the V8 energized “The Roll”. Blondiali’s trumpet loosely trudges with Delville on “Not Another Loud Song” and is hip ly muted teaming with Bianco on “This Is”. Campion gets an aria on “Inro” and leads into a somber “Intrusilon “ with Guenet and Hermia’s soprano. Impulse! records meets Ummagumma.
