The Colorado Springs Youth Symphony joins up with trumpeter Sean Schafer Hennessy and her team of Cully Joyce/ts-fl, Colin McAllister/g, Jason Crowe/bBrad Bietry/p and Chris Gaona for some mainstream joys. The Gary Nicholson-conducted orchestra adds drama and texture to pieces like “Desert Fever” (with Hennessy delivering a rich solo) and the brightly built up title tune. The lush strings serve as a nice backdrop for Hennessy and McAlliser on the warm “O & D” while the team gives a blues march for Crowe and Bietry with Hennessy growling along on “Haunted Eyes” while the team gets kinetic and the sections punch around “Funky Winkerbean”. Vocalist Krista Joyce adds an extra layer of spirit to the driving and upbeat “Pneuma” and the title track . Optimistic atmospheres abound.
