Gary Negbaur: You’ve Got To Be Carefully Taught

Piano man and vocalist Greg Negbaur mixes originals with clever covers on this concert feel of an album with Dom Richards/b and Nat Seelyey/dr. His voice can range from an assured James Taylor as on an assured “I Want To Be Happy” to a Boz Scaggsy croon on “What’ll I Do”. He delivers a clever read of The Beatles’ “Help” with just voice and piano, while “For No One” has a storybook feel. His own material is quite clever, with a Billy Joelish intro to “Chemistry”, hip and fun on “I Keep Missing My Cue” and going down a dark alley on “Dressing For Yesterday’s Weather”. Personal performances.
