Tenor saxist Sylvester Ostrowski leads a funky soul of a unit that includes guests Bobby Watson/as, Logan Richardson/as and Keyon Harrold/tp along with his working team of Eric Allen/dr, Dominique Sanders/b, Kasia Pietrko/p, Jakub Mizeracki/g, Maciej Kadziela/as, Tomasz Chyta/vln and Kacper Smollinski/harm. Watson forms a rich gumbo with Ostrowski with Allen digging in on the urgent “Chiefs Kingdom” and the two bop till they drop on a snappy read of “Confirmation”. Bird’s works are further delved into as Ostrowski teams with Mizeracki on a toe tapping take of “Donna Lee” while some funky soul grooves are stirred on the foggy “Burnt Ends”. Royal Chief and Laura Taglialatela mix vocals and rap on the urban “Burndt Ends (Welcome to Kansas City)” with Taglialatela giving some misty tones to the ethereal and dreamy “Sketches of Missouri”.
