Creating meditative and ambient soundscapes in tribute to musical inspirations, the team of guitarist Jakob Bro, trumpeter Arve Henriksen and drummer Jorge Rossy create a “Blue in Green” collection of dreamlike songs. Henrikson plays both trumpet and piccolo trumpet, reaching reflective upper tones on the reflective “Reconstructing A Dream” while giving some Miles Davis-type gasps on the fragile “Sound Flower”. Mehldau-alumnus Rossy uses deft brush work along with Bro’s tender guitar work on Slaraffendland” and adds to Henriksen’s shadows and Bro’s effects on “Beautiful”. A tribute to guitar legend Tomasz Stanko has Henriksen in a cirrus mood over rumbling drums and reflective strings on “To Stanko” while a tip of the hat to the recently departed Lee Konitz has Rossy trudging to somber guitar and drums on the eulogy “Music For Black Pigeons”. These three weave a rich tapestry of dark hues that draw you into the inner fibers of the whole work.
