Brazilian Diego Figueiredo mixes rich solo material with modern sounds via his quartet of Eduardo Machado/b, Fernando Rast/dr and Alexandre Piu/p on this latest of his lyrical releases. As with all thing Brazilian, Figueiredo glistens on sensuous samba pulses as he sashays on “Light Wind” creates droplets of sounds with Pie on “Alma” swings with delight on “Bryant Park” and sizzles in the intricate “Samba For Haroldo”. On his own, his touch is longing and personal for the flamenco flavored “Seville,” intimate for “Edgewater park” and folksy on the waltzing “From Rio To Paris”. Figueiredo has a pulse that is always swinging, yet his traditional dna keeps the Brazilian flavor sprinkled over every piece, like annatto melded with dende oil. Simmering to perfection.
