Guitarist Diego Barber gets a bit experimental on the electronic side of sounds on this most recent recording, mixing strings, loops and effects in a wide variety with ways along with some guests. Vocalist Theo Bleckmann brings in rich textured tones melding with ambient strings on the spacious title track, while percussionist Alejandro Coello adds marimba and other pulsations to the gentle and atmospheric “Leadvilee.” Some piano and Eno effects are brought in by Craig Taborn with strumming piano strings and abstract pastoral tones on “Cold Spring”. On his own, Barber paints dreamy scapes on the pulsating “Santa Monica”, an electronic chase scene on “San Fransisco” and some Atari jungle beats on they synthy “Bryce Canyon”. One thing this whole COVID lockdown has done is to nudge artists to go beyond normal boundaries to replace the general way of recording. This one is a creative solo endeavor with new ideas and experiments.
