A BLUES BREAKER…Joanna Connor: 4801 South Indiana Avenue

Blues vet Joanna Connor is shown in her bluesiest best outfit on this Joe  Bonamassa-produced session which includes  Joe B in the band with the iconic Reese Wynans/key, Josh Smith/g, Calvin Turner/b, Lemar Carter/dr and a STAXY horn section of Steve Patrick/tp, Mark Douthit/ts and Barry Green/tb. Wet Willie alumnus Jimmy Hall keeps on smiling as he snarls through some rocking axes on “Destination” to open things up. Connor herself is no slouch at the mic, sounding a bit like Robert Plant as she gets rough and gruff on “Come Back Hope” around Wynan’s saloon styled ivories. Bonamassa and Connor slide like Ricky Henderson going into second on the funky “It’s My Time” and get juke joint jumpin’ to Wynan’s B3 on the smoky “Part Time Love”. Connor gets swampy on her tribute to Albert King on “For The Love Of A Man” and goes double time while growling through “I Feel So Good”. This lady sounds like she could take all comers in an arm wrestling contest. WHEW!
