Bassist and composer Gui Duvignau mixes and matches trio and quintet performances with a core of Jeff Hirshfield/dr and Santiago Leibson/p while filling out the band with Billy Drewes/ts and Elias Meister/g. The threesome get lovely and dreamy on “Volta” while having fun ricocheting around on “2” and bopping on “Vem Logo!”. Duvignau’s bass leads well for Drewes’ dreamy tenor on “Somewhat” with some edgy work by the saxist and Meister on the echoey “Minas”. Hirshfield is crisp on “Right? Wow” and the team is rich on the breathy “Yerevan”. Both bands bring something to the table, and the table is well set.
