As far as ambition in a project goes, you will struggle to find something that reaches higher than this two disc opus by Dwiki Dharmawan, who plays piano, moog, Rhodes, Harmonium and voices as he teams up with Boris Savaldell on voice and live electronics, Markus Reuter on touch guitar and live electronics Asaf Sirkis on drums, cymbals and “ambient noises” and guests Jeremiah Pah on the harplike sasando, Endi Pah playing the drum tabur and the Deta Manu Art Group adding voices and percussion.
The music is basically a tale with three main characters, The (Mother) Earth, the Man (Son) and Event Horizon (Father) with Love, (Energy), Soul (Intelligence) and the Universe (Environment) used as forces and locals. The lyrics are in Italian, adding to the operatic atmosphere, with the pieces each divided into movements and acts, with solos, chorus and arias indexed between orchestrations of the ensemble. Moody, dramatic and far reaching, there are solos for piano in “L’errore” interspersed with drums, touch guitar over the rumbling drums on “Tu, L’uomo” and lots of explanations in the liner notes. This one needs lot of time to absorb and hopefully a discussion group on Youtube to help explain the implications. An Icarus of a recording.
