Billy Stritch: Billy’s Place

Pianist and vocalist Billy Stritch turns the lockdown lemons into musical lemonade as he’s started a program of solo nightclub streams that has caught on. This album collects some of the best, and it has a real late night casual feel without the two drink minimum and parking fees. Stritch delivers in the style of Bobby Short and Tony DeSare-uptown cool, and has an encyclopedic knowledge of Tin Pan Alley, charming out the lyrics on “It Might Be You” and “Skylark” while pulling out some obscure modern pieces like Peter Allen’s ”Planes”  and Barry Manilow’s “Meet Me, Midnight”. He also does his own material, with “Since You Left New York” and “Billy’s Place Theme” fitting right in. Casual crooning.
