Rick Fine sings like a carney , playing a wide variety of guitars with support from Alec Fraser/b, Gary Craig/dr, Jimmy Bowskill/mand and various guests on this homespun collection of originals. He’s folksy and leathered on casual pieces like “Below The Surface” and the back porched “Laundry On The Line.” The rhythm team shuffles on “Never Let Go” and gets Crescent City funky for “You Only Want Me When You Need Me”. Bowskill’s pedal steel adds a Nashville skyline to “One Lone Loon” and vocals from Melissa Payne and Suzie Vinnick add resolute spirits to the dark “That’s What Makes You Strong” and the two steppin’ “Yellow Moon, Indigo Sky” respectively. Dusty road stories.
