The trio of pianist-keyboardist Ptah William, drummer Rob Silverman and bassist Larry Kornfeld mix swing, bop and fusion on this snappy self-titled debut. Hints of Weather Report a felt with a mix of classical, keys and drive on pieces like their smooth read of “Chameleon” as well as the take of “Little Sunflower” with Kornfeld digging deep. Some fun wacka wooka and crackling sticks make for a Afro Sheen of Curtis Mayfield’s “Pusherman” that is a true hoot, while the team gets funkified on a fun interpretation of “Well You Needn’t”. Saxist Randy Brecker and trumpeter Randy Brecker join in for a fun and synthy “Just Like Us” with Michael Silverman adding keyboard concepts to the plugged in moments. Creative and catchy.
