Recorded “live” at NYC’s Jazz Gallery back in September, 2020, this duet album by alto saxist Miguel Zenon and pianist Luis Perdomo reminds us of what we’re missing from jazz clubs. The two create some gorgeous and passionate arias on this 6 song digital release.
Each take turns opening up the songs, with Zenon’s warm alto soloing like a breathy sigh on ‘Alma Adentro” and the graceful “Que Te Pedi” before Perdomo’s catcher’s mitt of hands envelops the ivories. The two get intricate on the complex and rapid run of “Juguete” while Perdomo is reflective as he leads in befor Zenon swoops down like a pelican on “La Vida Es Un Sueno”. Wondrous serenades in the Latin Quarter.
