LOOSE AS A GOOSE…What Happens In A Year: Ceremonie/Musique, Baldi/Gerycz: After Commodore Perry Plaza

Intuition taking the place of a written score…

Josh Sinton plays baritone sax and bass clarinet, with Todd Neuford on electric guitar and Giacomo Merega on electric bass for seven intuitive ruminations. Sinton tends toward the lower register in both reeds, brooding on the bari with abstract string support on “ La Politique Des Auteurs”, puffing on “Algernon” and creating long shadows on “Netherland.” A gurgling bass clarinet is surrounded by guitar abstractions and thick bass drapery on “Sleepwalk Digest” while he percolates on “Change of Scene”. Ambient creations for a walk in deep reeds.

Sparks fly with alto saxist Dylan Baldi teaming up with drummer Jayson Gerycz for a three song collection of fierce arm wrestling. “Hermit Thrush/Vat of Oil” opens with some loose ruminations before falling over the cliff on an avalanche of shrieks and volcanic eruptions. “Frog Congress at Dawn” includes long tones by Baldi, use of sax pads as percussion, subtones and evocations with the mouthpiece, with “The Holy Retrievers (In Transit)” closing things up with a snappy drum intro veering into a feeding frenzy of shrill shrieks and exclamation marks. Anyone get the license number?
