Seductive sounds of the Latin world…
This four song ep has the lovely flute of Katchi Cartwright teamed with the Brazilian team of Marco Antonio Santos/g, Fabo Augustinis/dr and Jan Flemming/acc for a joyous and breezy outing. Flemming’s hand percussion taps out a tasty treat along the festive guitar strums and sweeping flute of “Tico-Tico No Fuba” while they quartet sways to “Tarde De Chuva”. Santos is delicate on the tender “Caminho De Casa” and the team sizzles through “Groovy Samba” with Cartwright swooping like a pelican after its prey. Let’s get a whole album next time, and a tour to back it up. This was a fun one!
Pianist and composer Cesar Orozco mixes salsa and swing on this festive album with a core team of Jorge Glem/cuatro, Rodner Padilla/b, Pablo Bencid/dr and a rotating percussion and horn section that adds sizzle and style. Troy Roberts brings in his bold tenor sax for some solo work on the dark post bopper of a title track that is pushed along by Diego “El Negro” Alvarez as well as the dramatic and expressive “Spiral City”. Vocalist Natasha Bravo is luscious on the passionate “Sueno Y Anhelo” as she’s suavely supported by Glem’s strings, while some hip electric bass work propels the groove on”Chaca Para Purri” and the big band pop of “Heat Wave”. This team works up a sweat!
