Ian McGimpsey and Harrison Argatoff: Ontario 559 West

Warm duets are created by the team of guitarist Ian McGimpsey and the tenor sax of Harrison Argatoff on these 15 short and sweet originals. The focus is on lyricism and melody, with tone being the guiding light and lens to which each piece is read. McGimpsey’s pickings are at times display a hint of Leo Kottke, particularly on his solo “Guitar” but also on the folksy “39”, “Saying Little”  and the troubadour’d “The Sun Shone Still”. Argatoff’s tenor is Stan Getz breathy, rolling like a fog on his soliloquy “Horn” and softly swinging  on “In Equal Measure” while wafting on the glowing “Can A Soul Be Bright?”. The two show that they can swing in pairs, with a fun “42” and an easy pace for “ August 28, 2018”. Musical musings.
