Dave Young Quartet: Ides Of March

Bassist Dave Young delivers a tribute to the Blue Note period of (mostly)  Herbie Hancock on this richly delivered album tamed with trumpeter Kevin Turcotte, guitarist Reg Schwager and drummer Terry Clarke. Young is wise not to include a pianist, and Schwager creates rich shadows while Young lays down rich lines for Rucotte’s horn on “One Finger Snap” the clean and fluid and the rich “Riot” while the team is cool and collected on Lee Morgan’s “Speedball”. Young’s own title track is relaxed and calm, as his Forty Five Degrees” has a hip soul feel. Blue notes for Blue Note.
