Guitarist Dan Liparini displays mostly cool and clean colors on this deft mix of originals with a sublime cat of Jen Allen /p-key, Matt Dwonsyzk/b and Eric Hallenbeck/dr. Laparini strays only once from the land of Herb Ellis as he plugs in with Allen’s keyboards and rocks out with some effects on “Convergence”. Besides that, you get lyrical work by Laparini weaving around Hallenbeck’s cymbals on “Salamander”, gliding over Allen’s dark ripple of an undercurrent on the title work, and sounding folksy as he bookends Dwonsyzk’s bass work on the trio work “Spiral”. Liparini shows rich dexterity and creates a shadowy mood with Hallenbeck’s mallets and Dwonsyzk’s bowed bass on the slow undulations of “Acorn” and shows rich indigo hues on “Booze Blues”.
